To do all this work, I pulled the wing out of the stand and placed it on sawhorses.\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3388\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/thumb_IMG_2039_1024-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"thumb_IMG_2039_1024\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/thumb_IMG_2039_1024.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/thumb_IMG_2039_1024-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the wing on sawhorses. I used a unibit to cut a .500 diameter hole, which effectively removed the damaged region.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2154.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3371\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2154-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2154\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2154-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2154-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To form the doubler, I cut out a 2.5 X 2.5 square of .025 aluminum. In order to allow the aluminum to conform to the shape of the leading edge, I rolled the doubler over a piece of pipe I had laying around. I checked the curvature of the doubler against a scrap leading edge rib.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2159.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3372\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2159-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2159\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2159-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2159-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The doubler mounting holes were match drilled against the outside of the wing. This was the hardest part of the repair. First, the wing had to be moved back into the stand.\u00a0I used needle-nose pliers to pass the dimple die through a lightening hole in the spar and out through the drilled holes in the skin.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2169.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3375\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2169-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2169\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2169-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2169-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the dimple die stem was protruding out\u00a0of the wing, I used my blind rivet tool to form the dimples.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2170.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3376\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2170-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2170\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2170-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2170-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I deburred, dimpled, and primed the doubler.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2174.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3377\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2174-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2174\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2174-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2174-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The last thing I did was install the doubler. It took some patience to capture the doubler with a cleco, but everything ended up turning out great. The only thing left to do is to secure the doubler with blind rivets and full in the hole with some body filler.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2175.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3380\" src=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2200-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2200\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2200-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/rv7aircraftlog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/IMG_2200-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the left wing, I riveted the inboard aileron bracket in place.
