The goal for today was to get the bottom skin clecoed to the fuselage. The first thing I did today was ensure the fuselage was actually level. This is something I should have done yesterday, but I forgot. If you look closely, you can see both the forward and aft digital levels are at 0.0 degrees.\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Van’s sells the firewall sealant for $95, which I found pretty difficult to stomach. After doing an internet search, I purchased the same product from SkyGeek for like ~50% of the cost. Nice!

Here’s the sealant being applied to the the side and bottom firewall flanges. I used a popsicle stick to smooth out everything.

I got the bottom skin cleccoed in place! To ensure a good seal against the firewall sealant, I installed a clecco in every hole along the forward face of the plane. I installed a few #10 fasteners through the landing gear mounting holes to ensure those bigger holes were aligned.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The corners of the firewall have slight gaps, so I smoothed out some sealant in that region to close it out.
\n\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After a largely successful day, I’ve run into a problem with the fit of the auxiliary longeron on the right side. As shown in the image below, the longeron holes do not line up with the firewall bracket holes. It really didn’t matter how much force I applied to get these holes into alignment; things would not move into place. It appears when everything was being match drilled, the holes shifted slightly. I’m going to reach out to Vans and see what they say. I have a few ideas of how to fix this, but it’s not happening tonight.
