Davey invited me to fly out to Harris Ranch in N28989. Quentin was in the copilot seat and I sat in the back. Harris Ranch is a resort along I-5 that serves as a stopping-point half way between LA and San Francisco. Beside the small runway and the restaurant, there’s not much going on out there. Overall, this was a great way to finish up 2015!

Here’s N28989 going through preflight and getting ready to go.

Harris Ranch is about 90 minutes from HHR. Davey requested flight following and we headed north across the middle of the state. All the previous flights I’ve made in CA have been over the coast; it was fun to see totally different terrain.IMG_9631

Harris Ranch is a tiny airport. When landing, the plane basically needs to be right on the centerline because the runway is so narrow. After landing we got lunch at the resort. Here’s Quentin hanging out before we refueled and departed. IMG_9642

As we were flying back, the sun started to set. This was a really awesome way to end the trip.

Another great day of flying! The only unusual part of the flight occurred when we hit some really nasty turbulence when flying over the Santa Monica Mountains and entering the LA basin. The turbulence only lasted about 15-20 seconds, but it was definitely the most intense shaking I’ve experienced in an airplane. I think the turbulence was just some weird air currents flowing over the mountain ridge that we should have been expecting. I’m sure a little more altitude would have solved the problem.
