Today is Saturday and I’m happy to say I got a good solid day in the hangar. The first thing I did was assemble the 4 rudder pedals. To ensure a good alignment of the side bracket, I riveted the parts with an AN3 bolt installed in the mounting hole. After a long break, it feels great to be doing some riveting. It’s been months since I’ve done any final assembly work. I’m going to send these parts off to be powder coated after the final hole drilling has been completed.

I spent a lot of time getting the F-684L gusset installed. I treated the cutout dimensions provided by Vans more like guidelines. You really just need to just iterate through a few fit checks until everything looks correct.

The plans tell you to maintain a .125 inch spacing from the gusset to the firewall. To ensure I had the correct spacing, I taped 2 .125 drill bits to act as spacers.

I’m a little tight on the edge distance on one hole. The caliper should read .1875, so I’m violating the distance by .030 inch. Edge distance issues are common in this hole location. I’ll keep an eye on it, but I’m not going to do anything about it now.
