I’ve taken a little break from the wings to work on the fuselage. Since a helper came with me to the hangar today, we worked on the two-person riveting on the right wing.
The first thing we did was pull the wing out of the cradle so I could install the blind rivets around the repaired area on the leading edge.
The rivet job turned out pretty clean. At some point I’ll fill this area with body filler so it’s totally flush.
We put the wing back in the cradle so we could work on riveting the bottom skin. Before getting started on the riveting, I covered the spar holes with duct tape to prevent the bucking bar from falling through. I’m not making that mistake a second time!
These are the rivets we got through today. A helper was responsible for the rivet gun on the outside and I used the bucking bar on the inside. I’m super happy with the progress we made today. Almost all remaining rivets on the right wing can be done by myself.
I’m so close to being done with this wing! Just a few more rivets to go.
