For the canopy latch, I’m going with with the aftermarket latch provided by JD Air. It’s a much nicer solution compared to the lame sheetmetal latch provided by Vans. I really like to flush exterior of the upgraded latch. It looks very similar to the door handles on my Tesla.
You have to make a separate drill tool to get everything located correctly on the fuselage. The tolernaces on these parts actually need to be super precise. I had the the latch and mounting brackets clamped to the tool and ready for match drilling.
The pre-drilled holes in the upper and lower mounting brackets were drilled into the tool. Those holes in the tool will be used to drill the holes in the fuselage.
