Today is day one of a 3 month sabbatical. I need to ensure a substantial portion of this time is spent bring the airplane project forward. It’s unlikely I’ll be able to actually finish the plane, but I expect I’ll be able to cram in a few year’s worth of work into these 3 months.
I think the quality of my original rudder build was sub-standard. This is particularly true at the trailing edge of the rudder. For this reason, I’m going to rebuild the rudder.
I spent the day trimming and deburring the skin stiffeners. First, the 8 different stiffener lengths had to be defined. The stiffeners were fabricated through a process of removing the gross material with metal cutters and then doing the finer detail work using grinding disks and files.
Here’s the first 8 stiffeners with all material removed. The next step will be a final debarring pass.
I was hoping to get a bit more work done, but the heat was really slowing me down. I got about 4 hours in today.
