I basically got the left flap completed today.
The major work involved setting all the bottom-side rivets that connect to spar/skin/hinge. This was super easy with the squeezer. I’m not sure why there’s a weird smudge on the part in this picture.
I got these blind rivets installed out the outward ribs. For some reason Vans has you install blind rivets in this location, even though solid rivets would get the job done. I think this was just an oversight on their part. Either way, it doesn’t really matter.
The last thing I did was install this blind rivet that interfaces with the inboard rib. The plans tell you to use a solid rivet here, but the bucking bar clearance is too tight around the nutplate. I didn’t want to risk damaging the nutplate
You can see in this picture (taken a few days earlier) the right clearance between the hole and the nutplate.
I’m basically done with the flap assembly besides installing a few blind rivets that join the spar to the ribs. I’m going to need a second set of hands to pull away the forward section of the flap so I get get the rivet puller in that tight area.
