I took a break from the rudder to work on the elevator. Since I’m waiting on some elevator components to be delivered, I went back to working on the rudder today.

I got started by dimpling the #30 holes that will be used to secure the upper rudder tip.

I match drilled the rudder counterbalance weight to the mating rib. IMG_4755

After drilling the lead, I countersunk the part. This lead is like cutting through clay. IMG_4758

I match drilled the stiffeners and nut plates to the rudder spar.IMG_4764

I got to use my new vise-grip dimples to dimple the top rudder rib.IMG_4767

Here’s some of the parts getting primed.IMG_4776

I countersunk both sides of the rudder trailing edge. IMG_4780

I riveted the spar doubler and nut plates.IMG_4795

Lastly, I riveted the counterbalance rib to the spar and riveted the counterbalance skin to the skeleton.IMG_4811
