The first thing I did today was cut the flange scallop to avoid the right landing gear weldment. Since I had made the scallop on the left side previously, I had a good idea regarding the amount of material removal that was required. You can see the right landing gear weldment temporarily installing below.
I added this image because I think the fuselage looks awesome with the weldments in place. Getting these 2 parts took a ton of fitting iterations.
I cut the hole in the the bottom skin for the right landing gear. Again, this fit took many iterations to get right. The hole size provided by Vans is undersized by ~.125 around the perimeter. I used this opportunity to cut the 5/8 inch brake line holes on each side.
Here’s what the outside of the landing gear socket looks like when everything is installed. I’m quite happy with the fit.
