I spent the evening working on the right lower longeron installation. Similar to the modification I made on the left lower longeron, I had to cut away a small portion of the forward end to achieve the proper fit against the firewall.
I clamped the lower longeron to the steel bracket. Other builders have had issues achieving the proper edge distance on the bracket. I marked a line, which defines the minimum edge distance on the bracket. By looking through the predrilled #40 holes in the longeron, I could see the edge distance line and ensure I maintained the appropriate edge distance.
Here’s the holes drilled to the (nearly) final size. I have to open the holes to the final size after I receive the proper reamer.
This shot shows the edge distance in the steel bracket. Looking good!
