I spent most of the day working on the firewall forward, but I had a little extra energy to knock out the installation of the ELT mounting plate. This thing was a giant pain due to the tight tool clearance. I taped up the the side of the fuselage to limit any scratches to the primer. In the picture below, you can see how the mounting plate has to be pulled away to get the rivet puller in the installation spot. I used the Avery off-angle rivet tool to get the rivet puller around the J-stiffener. You can see the tool on the right side of the picture.
Here are those rivets installed. What a pain.
Here’s the installation of the rivets on the top surface. Again, you can see how the off-axis tool was used to react the rivet pulled against the rivet head.
