I’ve taken about a 6 month break from the roll bar. Now it’s time to get the roll bar installed on the fuselage.

The directions are pretty unclear, but according to my online research, the best way to position the roll bar is by lining it up with the forward edge of the top skin. I clamped a length of angle aluminum in place and achieved the proper angle by shimming it with popsicle sticks.

Here’s the full setup.

The march drilling of the mounting brackets takes a few clamps and spacers. After double checking to ensure I had all my parts overlapping properly, I drilled the “keeper rivet” holes. Vans has you drill the pilot holes in the upper flange, which means you have to align everything, remove the angle brackets from the roll bar while they are still clamped together, and then match drill the angle brackets together. It seems like they should have you drill the pilot hole in the outer bracket.

Here are the match drilled brackets.
