I should be working on the canopy frame, but I wanted a break from that subassembly. I spent the day getting the mounting features added for the master relay and the starter relay. The datums everything gets measured off is pretty ambiguous in the plans so a lot of time was spend measuring/marking the hole drill locations.
Although all the added parts are installed on the aft side of the firewall, I did all the temp mounting on the forward side. I’ve got one of the nutplates drilled and mounted here, but ran into an annoying issue. I had an issue where the stainless steel wasn’t being removed properly in the .250 dia hole. A stainless burr got wedged between the firewall and the stiffer, which caused an unsightly bump in the firewall. After a good amount of struggling, I was able to fix the issue by drilling out a rivet to remove the burr. I then tapped the material with my rivet gun to flatten it out. You can see a small crease in the next picture.
Here’s the doubler. I’m mildly annoyed one of the nutplates is slightly rotated, but that’s just a cosmetic issue.
The rivet spacing is clearly violating the standard. This is matching the spacing shown in the plans, so I’m going to go with it. Since these rivets are so close, I’m using an Oops rivet on the nutplate.
