I’m still chipping away at the smaller details of the canopy. I spent the most of the day trying to get a consistent gap between the forward and aft canopy sections. This was an iterative process of inspecting the gap, opening the canopy, and sanding away small amounts of plexiglass. Overall the gap turned out acceptable. There is one portion of the canopy where the gap is a little wider than I want, but I don’t think it will be noticeable in the long run. There’s not really anything I can do about it now.
This is just a cool picture I took while between canopy sanding iterations.
I came back to the hangar in the evening and continued working on the aft canopy. I opened up the holes in the canopy to 5/32 with a plexiglass drill bit. I also tapped the holes in the roller bar to 6-32. The amount of thread engagement is less than I consider ideal, not to mention the lack of inserts, but there’s not really anything I can do to change it. I just need to finish trimming the aft window and it’s basically ready to go.
